Wine is a subjective subject, What YOU prefer is most important, find a wine profile you enjoy.

Analyzing wine is a Skill that requires a combination of technique and experience.

The more you do it, the better you become at analyzing what you taste. Here are some things to consider when tasting wine:

Color
Use a white background and hold the wine glass in front to observe the true color of each wine. Colors tell you many things

White Wines
a. The Grape Varietal
b. The wine was or not aged in Oak
c. The wines age, Darker = Older

Red Wine

b. The Age of the Wine Lighter = Older (look at the edges)

Swirl
When you swirl the wine it aerates and releases the bouquet of the wine. Remember it has been sealed in a bottle for a long time.

Smell
The Nose (describes the bouquet and aromas) Just think and make an association with the world around you. What do you smell every day, the list below may help. Approximately 80% of what you taste comes from smell.

Taste
Tasting wine is just that, take a small amount of wine in your mouth, swish it around like mouth wash and spit it out. Now describe what you taste. Is this the style of wine you prefer or not. (use the chart below for some helpful ideas).

Remember: Find a wine you enjoy drinking. Cheers!
